Project details
Location: St Albans, Hertfordshire
Type: Landscaping
Year: 2022
Scope: Landscaping
The Brief
Privacy without losing the light. The rear garden needed a proper outdoor living space: room to sit and entertain, screened from neighbours, and stepping cleanly down from the house.
Materials
Slate, render and cedar. Dark grey paved terraces and broad steps lead down from the house to white-rendered raised beds with pebble borders. Tall horizontal slatted cedar screens, planted with a row of young trees, enclose the seating area.
Outcome
An outdoor room. The result is a sheltered, private terrace that feels like an extension of the house, with planting that softens the screens and will fill out over the coming seasons.
